So I thought I'd pose a question about the an engraving in the Maranatha book. Maybe we will start talking about what ever the hell they all mean. Though I'm pretty sure that's the whole point. So if you don't want to share anything, it's completely understandable. Thought I think this is pretty harmless.
Did anybody else notice that the old man with the lantern in the first engraving on page 7 looks very similar to the old man pictured in Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" poster and promotional images?
It is said that the lyrics for the song are inspired by a book called the Magic Arts in Celtic Brittan by Louis Spence. Perhaps that is where the image was either drawn from or inspired by.
Also, the song has long been acused of having hidden backward messages refering to Satan and 666.
Wikipedia is as always the most infinite source of information. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stairway_to_heaven
I'll throw in the lyrics to Stairway as well. Read closely for parallels to alchemy and the like.
Stairway To Heaven (Page/Plant)
There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to heaven. When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed With a word she can get what she came for. Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven.
There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure 'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings. In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings, Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven. Ooh, it makes me wonder, Ooh, it makes me wonder.
There's a feeling I get when I look to the west, And my spirit is crying for leaving. In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees, And the voices of those who stand looking. Ooh, it makes me wonder, Ooh, it really makes me wonder.
And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason. And a new day will dawn for those who stand long And the forests will echo with laughter.
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now, It's just a spring clean for the May queen. Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run There's still time to change the road you're on. And it makes me wonder.
Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know, The piper's calling you to join him, Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know Your stairway lies on the whispering wind.
And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul. There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold. And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last. When all are one and one is all To be a rock and not to roll.
I am new to the forum. I have been doing this puzzle for a couple of months. I noticed the "stairway" thing a while ago but couldn't find anyone in any other discussion groups who got this. Makes the lyrics to the song have a whole nerw meaning. Did you know this was written in a house once owned by Alestair Crowley?
I have had a few ideas and a lot of "Epiphanies" during my quest. Loving the journey - a prize in itself. I think I know what the key is but not how to use it.
I take it you have all solved the icknield and ermine way thing?
I think some of the references to christ/anti-christ are irrelevant - it depends on whose teaching you believe as a preface. All of us have good and evil, yin and yan, light and dark etc. Is this not hinted at by the caduceus. Was the mark of cain a curse or a promise?
Still struggling with the symbols in the images
Oh and by the way - I think lucky hoodoo is off the planet and trying to stir you all up with his delusions of grandeur - they have pills for that mate!
I would say that there is a resemblance in the picture used because the cover art designer for LZ's album also used tarot card images, this is what they are. Look at any traditional Tarot card packs and perhaps consider the depth of meaning of those rather than modern-ish pop art references.
